Explore Every Road is a mobile app that records which roads you have driven and shows them on a map. It is a personal project run by one person, not a company. Using the app means you accept these terms.

There is no account, no subscription and no payment. The whole app is free, and there is no paid tier withheld behind these terms.

Do not interact with the app while driving.

The entire point of the design is that you do not have to: start tracking before you set off, put the phone down, and the app records roads in the background with the screen off. Nothing about the app requires your attention mid-journey.

You are responsible for driving safely and for obeying the laws where you are, including any law about handling a phone in a vehicle. Do not use this app to plan routes into places you should not go, and do not treat it as a navigation system — it does not give directions and is not designed to be followed.

I make no guarantees that the app is accurate, available, or fit for any particular purpose. Road matching can be wrong. Roads can be missing from the underlying data. A drive can fail to record. If any of that would be a serious problem for you, this is not the right tool.

To the fullest extent the law allows, I am not liable for any loss, damage or injury arising from using the app — including lost drive history, missed roads, or anything that happens while you are driving.

Your drives, explored roads and photos are stored on your device and nowhere else. I do not hold a copy, which means I cannot restore anything for you if your phone is lost, reset, or the app uninstalled.

Back up anything you would miss using Export my data in Settings. Details are in the privacy policy.

Road geometry comes from OpenStreetMap contributors and is licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. Region boundaries come from national mapping agencies under their own terms, all listed on the coverage page.

The downloadable region packs are public and you are welcome to use them — see the pack format. If you do, the ODbL applies to you as well: it is a share-alike licence, so a derived database you publish must carry the same terms and credit OpenStreetMap contributors.

The packs are static files served from ordinary storage. Please do not hammer them — a reasonable bulk download is fine, an automated loop re-fetching gigabytes is not, and it costs a real person real money.

Do not use the app or its data to harass, stalk or track another person, and do not present the data as something it is not.

The app works offline once a region is downloaded, so it does not stop working if my hosting does. Pack downloads and this website, though, are best-effort with no uptime guarantee. I may change, break or discontinue any part of this at any time — it is a side project, run in spare time.

Region packs are rebuilt periodically as OpenStreetMap changes. Road counts and file names can change between rebuilds.

The app is intended for people aged 18 or over. It records background location, which is not something to hand to a child.

If these terms change, the date at the top of this page changes with them. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept the updated version.
