There was going to be a paid tier — GPS matching on a server, drives syncing between devices. It never shipped, coz running it was the problem. My machine at home fell over the moment a few friends in other countries started panning around the map, and when I handed the work to Cloudflare instead, I got a bill.
So I moved the whole thing onto your phone. Matching runs against a database you already downloaded — no API to call, no session to keep, no tiles to meter. All that is left to host is a few gigabytes of static files, and static files on R2 have no egress fees.
So there is nothing left to charge for. That is the whole pricing strategy.
